Stanley Parker was born and raised on the Navajo reservation, in the Four Corners region of New Mexico. Unlike many of his contemporaries. who had early mentoring experience in silversmithing, he acquired his skill later in life. As a young man, he began working in the electronics industry, but was drawn to jewelry making after watching others work. He says that his experience soldering electronic circuit boards facilitated his transition to working with silver. Two things about Stanley’s work especially stand out: mastery of technique, and choice of natural turquoise. His silver work harks back to earlier styles, but with an individual twist, and beautiful precision. He used to cut his own natural stones, but no longer has the time. Nevertheless, the turquoise he chooses is of the same high quality.
