Sheldon Harvey

Prize-winning painter, carver, sculptor, and creator of mystical images, Sheldon has been an artist all his life, and creates images that are sometimes representational, sometimes symbolic; always imaginative. His work is found in major collections throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. His carved and decorated Ye’ii figures are among his most creative works. Based on traditional Dine (Navajo) creation stories, they are his own interpretation of what he has heard and read. He never repeats a carving.
At the 2008 Santa Fe Indian Market Sheldon’s sculpture won Best of Classification, while his painting “Trixter Way” won Best of Classification and Best of Show, the first time anyone could remember such a multiple win! He is a major artist in the emerging field of abstraction in Native art.
