Shelden Nunez – Velarde

In 2009, he won a hotly contested, much-coveted fellowship from the SWIA organization, sponsors of Santa Fe Indian Market. This was just one more of many awards and prizes this fine potter has won over the past few years.
He is fiercely proud of, and devoted to, his Apache heritage. His beautiful micaceous pieces are meant to encourage appreciation for his culture and expand knowledge of it. Of course they also express his artistic creativity, as well. Shelden and his family still own several utilitarian wares made by his great-great- and grand-mothers. Beautifully simple in form, they inspire some of his designs; other pieces are purely contemporary designs.
