An older brother of our resident artist, Alvin Vandever, Wil is one of the many excellent silversmiths in that family, as is evident in this lovely pendant.
Meticulous silver work surrounds and sets off the high, pillowed stone, echoing the graceful oval in three concentric rows. The turquoise is natural, and a beautiful true turquoise color, with a bit of spiderweb matrix at the bottom. Each row of the surrounding silver is different; each row, like the entire ring, is fabricated by hand. The proportions of the stone and the silver are very graceful, and decorative.
A chiseled, toothed bezel supports the stone, in a narrow shadowbox; the other silver is also chiseled, cut , and topped with five, graduated silver domes. Even the bail is chiseled, to harmonize with the whole.
Classic Navajo style, in a modernized form, with superior silver work, a very pleasing design, and a beautiful stone. And a superior value, too!
