Traditional Revival Royston Ring
Brother of Calvin Martinez and cousin of the late Kirk Smith, who were his mentors, Rick prefers traditional styling in his jewelry.
He creates retro-styled pieces with minimal silver and emphasis on turquoise stones. His style of jewelry is also called Traditional Revival.
This ring is a wonderful example: in style and technique, it could have been made 100 years ago, but the workmanship is more refined.
Mellow, mossy green Royston turquoise is cut into an interesting, somewhat organic shape.
It is held by a plain bezel, set into a narrow shadow box, and surrounded by a frame of twisted silver wire.
The shank is a classic three-bar style, open at the front for comfort, and fused at the back.
All the silver is lightly antiqued, to match the old-fashioned style.
The simplicity of the silverwork allows the turquoise to take a front seat.
Timeless in design and materials, this is tradition for the 21-st century.
