Lots of textural variety, dynamic composition and visual interest in one small picture.Alice’s skill is apparent in her effortless handling of the different surfaces: woven rug, wooden table, well-used, well-worn tin pots and pans. You can almost feel the rust spots and rough edges. Daughter of a weaver, raised on the Navajo reservation, the artist is a master of the pastel medium. She attended art school in Chicago, where her virtuoso technique was honed. She favors subjects close to her roots. Here, she has lovingly preserved some of her mother’s favorite kitchen equipment, placed against one of her rugs. A warm, colorful visual ode to her past.As are all her pieces, this one was custom matted and framed by the artist.
