Mary Tom began her silversmithing career in 1971 by fabricating the silver and the silver-and-gold beads that graced the pendants that she made. From there, her talent grew and she now creates very clean, contemporary pieces, from gorgeously dramatic necklaces to simple silver bead earrings.
Everything she does is by hand, with the utmost care and attention to detail.  She shows every year at Santa Fe Indian Market and has won many awards.  Most recently, one of her necklaces won First Place at the 2018 Santa Fe Indian Market.
These elegant earrings are a beautiful example of her work!

The vivid blue lapis catches the eye immediately.  It shines against the simple silver bezel.  Blue is the color of water, a sacred resource, especially here in the desert.

The theme of water is continued in the tear-drop shaped silver hoops that hang below the lapis.  Each beautiful, little silver drop is hand made, as is the stamped silver bead at the top of the drops.  The spaces between each drop and the inside channel are oxidized, making the silver and blue pop even more against the blackened background.

Not too heavy, these earrings can be worn anywhere, whether you just want to add a bit of pizzaz to your jeans and t-shirt, or you are getting dressed up for a night out on the town!
