A self-taught silversmith from the Navajo enclave of Tohaji’lii, New Mexico, Alvin Monte enjoys combining silver and gold in his pieces.
And, that’s exactly what he did in this lovely band ring, with textured and polished gold over silver.
The inside of the band is stamped with multiple stars, possibly representing the night sky over the people of Navajo Nation. We here at Wright’s call these designs that are solely for the wearer the inner beauty.
The band itself is sterling silver overlaid with 14k gold, both high polished and textured, offering depth and dimension which is very fitting for the subject matter.
Alvin calls this his line design, and just looking at the band you can see why! All around the band are alternating lined designs, each of them symbolizing lightning or rain, which is important for the prosperity of the people, the animals, and the crops. The sterling silver border is notched, possibly a depiction of rain, possibly just a beautiful design choice by the artist.
Either way, this ring is a stunner. It can be worn all the time, dressed up, dressed down…it could even be used as a wedding band!
A simple yet stylish band for an amazing price, this is a piece you don’t want to miss out on!
