For lovers of lizards, miniatures and finely made pottery, here is a real find! A precisely formed seed pot is the perch for an elegantly curled, black lizard, who is both painted and sculpted. He is guarding the seeds, against insects, and other, verminous creatures. The crisp contrast of black, wild spinach-derived paint and the pristine, natural white of the clay is classically graphic. The curling, and pointed designs around part of the edge echoes the shape of the lizard, and the subtly raised edge that forms him, as well as the circular shape of the pot itself. They represent water and earth, a balance needed for seeds to sprout. Totally traditional, this is handmade clay, hand coiled and formed, painted with natural color, by hand. Forms, finish, design – everything is done to perfection. This is a truly a little gem.
