We are so glad to welcome this fine carver back from the oil and gas fields! His graceful, detailed carvings have won many prizes in the past, and will undoubtedly do so again. Like most of his work, this lovely kachina is a contemporary rendition, carved with great delicacy, grace and precision. The simplicity of her stance, with head slightly raised, and the the gracefully gathered blanket, is almost Asian in feel. Her hand is carefully detailed, holding delicately carved feathers, and the double tier of “turquoise and coral” necklaces is imposing. Her long hair is beautiful; carved and fading into paint at the very bottom, in back. More fully carved feathers adorn her hair. Moccasins peep out beneath the drape of the robe, and her form is suggested, as if inside the tightly wrapped blanket. The wood is as meticulously finished as the rest of the piece. This figure may be smaller than some, but she is just as stately and elegant as his larger pieces, and has been carved and painted with the same, meticulous beauty.
