This third-generation jeweler’s artistic roots must go back beyond his grandparents; “Platero” is the Spanish word for silversmith, and probably was given to an ancestor in another century.
Well-known for hollowware – bowls, salad servers, etc – he creates finely made pieces whatever the genre, as evidenced in this spectacular Silver Textured Baby Spoon.
Fabricated from a sheet of sterling silver, the texture on the handle of this spoon was made with silver dust – the handle was heated up and then silver dust, generally the detritus from the sawing of the original piece, is sprinkled over the top while the metal is still hot so it fastens the two together.
The handle is also decorated with two journey symbols and a curving kiva step design overlaid onto the surface, signifying blessing on your journey through life – a very thoughtful message for a baby spoon!
A wonderful heirloom and a fantastic collectible, this baby spoon is sure to serve up a lot of beauty!
