Although the elements are all traditional, this naja might be termed “post-modern”. The brushed finish of the silver, the gentle swells of the rounded forms, and – especially- the contemporary minimalism of the stamp work and individual design, all bring this iconic symbol of Navajo jewelry right up to the 21st century. Even the ring from which it hangs is carefully shaped to complete the design. The base is very traditional: true tufa- cast silver. The flowers and rounded arms of the naja were then fabricated and applied separately. This can hand from a chain, a cord, or small beads – whatever you like. The artist is heavily involved with the film industry, in the Four Corners area, but meticulously creates innovative pieces, as well.
