Is there a trend here? Quite a few silversmiths seem to be going “back to the future” – tweaking classic forms to retain the traditional look, but with subtle, contemporary differences.
Here is a fine example. The traditional silver concho style is simplified into a graphic circle that is stunning. Everything is handmade, in the old way.
The gleaming center is chiseled; the scalloped ends are both stamped and repousse (pushed out by hand) in a rhythmic visual dance. The tips are simple, tapered cylinders.
This is how to have the best of the past in the present, and well into the future.
