A graduate of the Institute for American Indian Arts, in Santa Fe, since his graduation Tim has shown his work at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Indian Market, and other prestigious shows, earning numerous awards.
He credits many teachers for inspiring him, including Charlene Reano (Santo Domingo), Diane Tintor (NTA), Fritz Casuse (Dine), and also his father T. Arnold Herrera (Cochiti).
Tim has worked in many forms of art, including drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture, although jewelry is his main focus. He is the son of a Cochiti Pueblo drum maker and is also known for this traditional art form.
Cochiti Pueblo is known for its traditional drums and pottery; jewelers are rather rare.
This totally hand-fabricated pendant depicting a Cutthroat Trout is full of amazing detail! The pendant includes many techniques, such as chiseling, stamping, inlay, and overlay. The inlaid stone is Natural Mediterranean Coral, and the high-polished silver provides great contrast with the deep stamps and chisel-work. Tim always uses high-grade, natural stones, and this amazing Natural Bisbee Turquoise cabochon is no exception. The stone is set in an 18k gold castellated bezel, an upgrade in materials to match the exquisite stone…and the eye of the trout!

“My inspirations are many; from my pueblo upbringing to my everyday life. I spend a lot of time outdoors being both an avid fisherman and a hunter. As in my traditional pueblo culture, I find great inspiration in the natural world. Everything outdoors speaks to me, from the sounds and the fluid motion of a stream, the wind blowing through the leaves of a tree, the birds in the sky, the mammals that walk this earth, and the fish in the waters; all of these find their way into my works at times.”
