Spring is in the air – all year long – with the beautifully painted flower garlands and birds on this finely shaped pot.
Mark Wayne Garcia has been an active Santo Domingo Pueblo potter since the 1990s. He is known for working with black-on-red, and most recently, in micaceous slips with black.
He has finally achieved the recognition he deserves, with his glittering micaceous work.
His pieces are noted for their shapely form, smooth finish and superbly painted, crisp black graphics.
A graceful, flowing garland of ribbons and finely tapered petal pinwheels, beautifully decorate the full-bodied olla.
On the other side, the flower petals frame a more traditional bird, whose rotund form echoes the shape of the olla.
Wonderful technique, gorgeous design, and a substantial size, for a hard-to-believe price!
