A native of the northern Plains, this multi-talented artist has been honored at Santa Fe Indian Market with prestigious prizes in four different categories: sculpture, painting, jewelry and clothing! Her Sioux heritage is a constant in her work, revealed in her love for animals, such as this sensitive elk sculpture. Note that the artist’s Indian name is “Elk Woman”!
With upraised head and open muzzle, this handsome elk is calling for a mate. His splendid antler rack is gracefully formed of sterling silver, and the whole animal is carved from a ruddy brown alabaster, roughened, and textured in places, for added interest and realism.
Delicately shaped hooves, tail, head and muzzle, sturdy musculature of the throat, chest and body; the beauty of the elk is attentively carved with great precision.
