Here, she has made a “modern” storyteller: rather than an elder relating lore to rapt children, here is a seemingly older child, lying down, with a little girl, an infant, and two happy doggies on his back.
Made entirely by hand, with natural clay slips and wild spinach for the black, the lighthearted mood of the animals, in particular, seem infectious.
“Let’s play”, the pooch holding a ball seems to be saying.
His white and black counterpart seems to agree enthusiastically.
This is an amusing variation on the classic storyteller figure, by a noted potter.
