The kiva is a sacred ceremonial place for many tribes, and the steps are a common symbol in Native American jewelry.
These beautiful, sterling silver dangle earrings are adorned with many kiva step patterns which have been arranged in a pinwheel shape. The pinwheel design can be used to represent the various stages in life. This symbolism is repeated in the kiva step design itself, as the three steps are commonly thought to represent birth, life, and death (the afterlife).
Cut from another piece of silver, the pinwheel of kiva steps has been overlaid onto a textured and oxidized base layer of sterling silver, giving depth to the entire composition.
These earrings are stamped, however, we have not been able to identify their maker, who brought them into the gallery long ago.
Beautiful in design, and lightweight enough to wear every day, these earrings will be a wonderful addition to any collection (or the beginning of a new one!)
