Allison Lee,whose Indian name is Snowhawk, is a consistently prize-winning jeweler, who produces finely detailed and well-designed work, like this dramatic ring.
This piece says “Quality!” in execution, materials and design. Based on a traditional design, the gorgeous stone, an oval of natural, water web Kingman turquoise, floats above a gleaming rectangle of polished, plain silver. It is flanked by a fan of stylized eagle feathers – in silver, of course – that have been chiseled by hand. This design was often seen on leather bow-guards, or “ketohs”. The repetition of linear patterns is deftly arranged, from the toothed bezel, to the feather motifs, to the separated bands of the ring’s shank.
It is subtle, but the artist has composed the elements to achieve a subliminal harmony. Traditional inspiration leads to a modern look, but the hand made execution and classic materials keep this marvelous statement ring firmly in the continuum of centuries.
