A handsome, new design, beautifully executed by this Navajo jeweler who is partial to the traditional Pueblo good-luck symbols of dragonflies and hummingbirds.
The birds stand out, literally and figuratively, from the darkened background, and the small round turquoise stones light up the silver palette. The hummingbirds look as if they are hovering in the air, looking for the next flower.
The delicately elongated beaks and curvy forms of the bodies and tails contrast with the deeply chiseled feathers, depicted with bold, straight lines. Circular, cut-out eyes are echoed in the round shadowbox setting of the turquoise cabochons.
These earrings are both graceful and dramatic – a considerable feat. Those of you who already have one of Aaron’s hummingbird bracelets or rings might want to add these; you birders, hummer lovers, and lovers of unusual, beautifully made jewelry, will all love these earrings, too.
