“Fam o’ Chile” Bolo

Abraham Peina

A young artist, related to the well-known Peina family of Zuni jewelers, Abe favors contemporary designs and sometimes adds a whimsical touch.

This well-made and appealing bolo pays homage to the classic New Mexico icon, the chile pepper.

“Red or green?” (Chile) is the official State question, after all, encountered in almost every restaurant in the state, from humble to haughty.

This bolo is beautifully fabricated in sterling silver overlay, so you don’t have to answer – it suits lovers of either color.

Wonderful detail and thought went into this bolo.

The silver is finished to a satin feel, and a dazzling polish, with just enough darkened base silver to emphasize the form.

Not just one chile pepper, this bolo represents a whole family!

There is Papa – the big one – Mama – the medium one, underneath, and the rest of the family, the kids, seen as decorative tips, along with one green turquoise.

A permanent reminder of a happy trip to the Land of Enchantment, or the proud statement of a resident; this unique bolo won’t ever burn your mouth, but will fire up conversations.
