It would be a thrill to see Navajo lapidary artist Sammy Smith at work. He is gifted with amazing imagination and skill, which he uses to piece together his magnificent and intricate inlaid creations. This large pendant represents the Yei, a holy figure in the Navajo (Dine) culture.
Sammy uses a variety of stones that include sugilite, gaspeite, apple coral, jet, and turquoise. The Yei is represented on one side of the pendant, while the other side depicts Monument Valley in it’s full multi-stone glory.
Sammy finishes the pendant with simple, highly polished, silver surrounding the inlay and a large silver bale that will accommodate many necklace sizes and styles. This is a showstopper, and can be worn in any situation, as long as you’re prepared to receive the “ooohs and ahhhs” that are sure to follow!
