Steve is an accomplished silversmith, from a noted family of jewelers, but this low-key jeweler prefers to let his work speak for itself. And what it says, is “quality”, in every area.
This lovely bracelet is a medley of lyrical curves and a skillfully balanced play of angles, textures and proportions.
A high-domed, graceful oval of natural Persian turquoise, in robin’s egg blue, is placed on a slight diagonal.
Persia has been a source for high-quality turquoise since ancient times, going back several thousands of years.
The pretty, slanting stone is flanked by two curls of gleaming silver wire, in a heavy gauge.
Altogether, they form a gentle diagonal which emphasizes the graceful movement of the whole design.
Two rows of overlaid, silver waves, or stylized feathers, attach to the top and bottom of the turquoise. These are graduated, to fit the tapered form of the narrow bands of the cuff.
There is a lovely fluid motion to the whole piece; the curves seem to suggest water – great good luck for high desert-dwellers.
As always, this fine jeweler’s work is impeccable, and the design is beautifully balanced between the textured and the smooth, the bright and the dark, and the wider and narrower.
Another expertly made, beautifully designed, classic piece by this talented, creative and respected artist.
