His dad was Richard Begay, and Phil learned the techniques of fine overlay and inlay at the paternal workbench. But the artistic vision is his, and in this ring he shows that his gifts and skills are worthy of Dad’s, or anyone else’s. Using the traditional colors for earth and sky, coral and turquoise, as well as jet, he has fashioned a ring of vibrant color, arranged in new ways. The natural red coral is lavished on the front and sides of the band. It radiates a glowing warmth next to the cool, polished silver. Equally luxurious, spiderweb turquoise is banded with jet, to accentuate the lacy black matrix and bring out the limpid blue. The silver band is voluptuously curved and rounded at the edges, with a nice substantial heft. Thinking ahead, the artist made sure to leave room at the back, so that the ring can be sized.Natural red coral is approaching serious gem-stone price; natural turquoise of interesting aspect is also much in demand. This ring is full of opulent beauty, but kept to a well-bred tone. Rich in style, color and skillful workmanship, this is a ring that will delight generations.
