Raynard Scott, or Ray as we know him, is known for his precise and exacting silver work and impeccable design aesthetic.
Both are evident in this fabulous cuff.
Hand-fabricated from sheet silver, Ray has used three layers of overlaid silver to create this cuff. The first and second layers appear to have been tufa cast, but in actuality, he textured them using silver dust that was sprinkled onto a heated sheet of silver.
On the first layer, a very fine dust was used to create the tufa-like texture. The dust used on the second layer was a bit coarser, adding another layer of dimensionality.
The third and final layer is comprised of two, thin, zigzag lines that mimic the shape of the entire cuff. The contrast between the three layers is striking and gives the cuff a sense of depth without adding to the weight.
The zigzag lines of the cuff represent water, a very important element to Native peoples, especially here in the desert!
Lightweight and beautifully crafted, this cuff is a treasure, and the price tag isn’t bad either!
