Darkly lustrous, iridescent black-lipped mother-of-pearl is brightened by glistening sparks of polished silver, both in the hand cut bezels and the glittering little domes. A felicitous pairing, accomplished by this always inventive young jeweler. Eric comes by his talent naturally – he is a grandson of Ben and Felicita Eustace, and a son of innovative award-winner Jolene Eustace. HIs own prize-winning style has always been contemporary, but this piece demonstrates a new finesse.
The tapered petals of mother of pearl are formed into graceful, pointed ovals that remind us of the traditional Zuni style of needlepoint inlay. In the center, there is another little dome of metal, but this one is of gold, which really lights up the cool grey mother of pearl.
The shank consists of a silver band that is rounded on the exterior, and flat on the inside, for wearing comfort. Another little dot, of silver this time, adorns the center back. Wonderful, old-fashioned hand workmanship, up-to-the-minute design sensibility, traditional touches, and versatile wearability, all in one. Enjoy this graceful statement ring – and the compliments that will follow.
