There are many Vandever siblings, and almost all of them have something to do with silversmithing. Alvin, of course, is our resident jeweler, and a recognized Master; Wilber is one of the brothers who is also extremely accomplished, as this handsome bracelet shows.
The centerpiece is a natural, Nevada Blue turquoise, in a brilliantly intense teal color. It almost looks like a Persian ceramic, because of the color, and because the web of matrix resembles the craquelure pattern of some prized antique pieces. But, it is natural turquoise, from Nevada, and simply dazzling. The silver work surrounding this amazing stone is just as brilliant.
The almost-round turquoise is set in a hand made, toothed bezel slightly set off from a rounded, tightly chiseled border, which in turn is framed by silver that is beveled and bright, chiseled at the sides, with three silver balls at top and bottom. This center piece is flanked by a chiseled, silver scallop shell half, with a matching silver ball at top and bottom. The cuff of the bracelet is composed of two flat bars, joined by a twisted silver rope in the center.
A gorgeous stone, beautifully shown off by superlative silver work. The look is more traditional than modern, but is actually a composition of the artist’s own creation. Prepare for oohs and aahs, when you wear this!
