Description
An unusual medium for Navajos, but this artist has mastered the marriage of folk art and beadwork. Here is a formal family portrait.
Typical of Navajo culture, Mom is the pivotal figure, sitting on a gold beaded stool, with her children around her.
The youngest sits on her long, dark skirt, while a little boy kneels at her feet, playing with a blue ball. Big sister (?) stands at mom’s shoulder.
Reminiscent of formal family photographs, from the early 1900’s, this is a sweetly colorful rendition of a Navajo family, in miniature.
