Antler Corn MaidenJethro Mahkee
This wonderfully detailed corn maiden. is carved from naturally shedded antler. The turquoise and coral embellishments are inlaid in the antler.
The corn maiden represents the creation of the first woman, in which she emerged from stalks of corn, symbolizing, abundance, prosperity and good health.
Her body is composed of individually hand carved “corn kernels”, and details of her long hair, the designs on her blanket, etc are gracefully incised.
Notice that the eagle feather above her head is carved from the one piece of antler, as well.
