Show your appreciation for New Mexico, and Native culture, with this splendid, wearable homage to both.
New Mexico’s original area code is 505 – now there is another one, but 505 encompasses the most populous region.
An exquisite rendering of the state’s official logo, as seen on the State flag, and everywhere.
It is actually the Pueblo Zia symbol, here translate into a finely wrought and remarkably elegant bolo.
Tufa-cast sterling silver lends it nubbly texture to the background, which is edged in earthy brown ironwood.
A round, gorgeous, cabochon of natural Kingman spiderweb sits proudly in the center, standing in for the sun symbol in the original Zia design.
It is supported by a polished silver bezel that sparkles in the light, contrasting with the texture of the tufa-cast silver.
The same, natural Kingman spiderweb turquoise is inlaid at each of the four sides, with gleaming silver channels.
These are placed at the ends of the four, darkened and chiseled parallel lines that shoot out from the center.
Representing rain, those lines mean the blessing of water extends to the four corners of the earth.
The inlaid wood suggests the land, balanced by the sky-and water blue turquoise, so Nature is in harmony.
Two keepers and the tips match the look and design of the bolo itself: tufa-cast, textured silver with inlaid round cabochons of the same, splendid, Kingman spiderweb turquoise, and incised parallel lines.
In addition, the artist has added a mini-Zia dangling from each tip. These, also, sport the chiseled lines and remarkable turquoise of the bolo.
Ronnie Henry creates prize-winning jewelry, but this is only one of a couple of bolos he has made – ever.
The workmanship is crisp and flawless, the design is beautifully refined; even the hand-braided leather cord is of superior quality.
Starting with superb stones, the whole bolo is a marvel of excellent design and workmanship.
The end result: an unusual bolo of understated brilliance and beauty, that will enhance casual to formal wear and elicit admiring comments whenever it is worn.
