Pahponee is a descendant of the Kickapoo and Potawatomi Nations, originally from the Great Lakes. She is self-taught, and has revived traditional pottery methods of her Woodland culture. She also works in contemporary pottery techniques.
Her experimentation and research has resulted in technical excellence, and many awards. Although she works mostly with commercial clays, the varied clay properties, tools, hand building and firing techniques have led to the creation of distinctive pottery that expresses her personal style and innovative character.
Her pottery is inspired by dreams, personal life, and an early spiritual experience with a sacred white buffalo. Although the shapes, colors, textures materials and techniques may vary, her work is always sophisticated and elegant, with clean lines and graceful form.
