Loretta Garcia-Sisco

Loretta Garcia was inspired and encouraged to learn the art of pottery making by her mother, Marie Torivio. Loretta learned all the fundamentals of pottery making the traditional way, from start to finish. After a considerable hiatus to work a “real” job, she has recently returned to making beautiful hand coiled, traditional pottery.
She gathers her clay from a special place within the Acoma Pueblo. Then, she soaks the clay, cleans, sifts, mixes, hand coils, shapes, paints, and fires her pottery. Firing is done the traditional way, outdoors, with pottery shards and manure.
