Heri Mora

One of the younger potters from the Mata Ortiz group, in northern Mexico. The Paquime Natives of Casas Grande and New Casas Grande villages, are descendants of Pueblo families who fled the return of Spanish rule, after the Pueblo Revolt of the 1600’s.
Heri is one who has developed a particularly distinctive style, creating pieces that are more cut out, than solid. These “Swiss-cheese” pots are terrifically difficult to achieve, and also beautifully decorated with paintings of animals. He also is noted for solid pots that are similarly, beautifully painted with birds and animals.
