This family is among the leading rug-weavers in the village of Teotitlan del Valle, an indigenous community in the Yucatan mountains of Mexico. Teotitlan del Valle and its weavers have been famous for over 2,500 years. The Zapotec Indians in this village were so well known for their weaving that the conquering Aztecs left them in place to produce textiles, instead of enslaving them to build pyramids. An amazing history.
