Belen Tapia

From Santa Clara Pueblo, Belen Tapia was a first cousin of the famed Margaret Tafoya, and celebrated in her own right as one of the innovators of polychrome pottery. She is deceased (1914-1999).
Her pottery is known for a brilliant polish on dark red clay, with painted designs of soft salmon, blue-grey and pale gold – all natural clay, crushed and mixed with water to form paints.
