The almost-youngest of a very large family, most of whom are jewelers or involved in jewelry processes, Alvin is noted for the astoundingly intricate kachina figures he fabricates entirely by hand (and his hands are not delicate!) in silver or gold. He also makes plates, larger pieces, large metal sculptures – anything in a noble metal, Alvin can execute, beautifully.
We like to call him one of “the best jewelers you’ve never heard of”, because he is. As unassuming as his work is elaborately detailed, Alvin prefers just to make his exceptional pieces, and let them speak for themselves. His many thrilled collectors, however, also speak his praises loudly, as does the fact that he won the Best of (Jewelry) Division at the prestigious Heard Museum show, the first – and only – time he entered.
We are delighted that Alvin has agreed to set up a studio inside our gallery, where he will do repairs on jewelry, as well as accept commissions, and continue to create his own work!
