From time immemorial, one of the most consistant forms of personal adornment has been hung or attached to the ears. Not really attractive in themselves, ears frame the face. A spot of color to bring out the eyes, or set off the headdress, or metal to shimmer with the movement of light, highlighted the features and complemented the costume. And still do: Earrings complete (and sometimes consist of) our ensembles; attract attention to our best features, distract from others, integrate our heads and our clothes, and express our infinite variety of moods and personality. You simply cannot have too many earrings.
