Wright's Indian Art > Jewelry > Crosses

When the Conquistadores of Spain came into the Southwest, they had priests and friars with them ready to convert the native tribes. It wasn't that hard, since the cross of Christianity resembled the dragonfly symbol already traditional to the Pueblos.

One artistic result of this historical event is a variety of beautiful cross pendants in many different styles. Some relate to their Native origin in materials alone (turquoise, etc.), while some replicate the early Pueblo dragonfly designs. All are beautiful, reverent, and very wearable.
