He is a Navajo jeweler ” whose individual vision sets him apart from tradition while retaining the cultural origins that inspired his talent”. Vernon is best known for very personal designs featuring fine, natural stones and inlay.
This terrific bracelet, while personal in design, is very different from his usual style: all sterling silver, the design is created only by hand stamped circles ranging from small to tiny. Not a stone in sight.
Moreover, it is whimsical, an adjective not usually associated with this major award-winning artist.
The dots meander around the surface of the cuff, in apparently random patterns that seem slightly goofy – in a pleasing way.
No clear shapes emerge, except for an arrowhead at the bottom center, and…a horse, walking off the left end of the bracelet!
The edges are roughly chiseled, the width is handsomely wide, and the wrist size is on the larger side.
This design took us by surprise; if it weren’t for Vernon’s initials stamped on the inside, we would never have guessed it was his!
Unexpected, but utterly delightful, this bracelet combines the artist’s rigorous workmanship with a lighthearted touch not often expressed in his celebrated work.
You can use it for your own “Who’s the artist?” guessing game, while enjoying its comfort and unique good looks.
