Wright's Indian Art > Jewelry > Gold/Gold & Silver > Naveek (Navajo) > Gold, Black Jade and Turquoise Figural Pendant
Voted national "Indian Artist of the Year" by his peers, his superb artistry is evident in this remarkable pendant. Heavy 14 karat gold, natural black jade and brilliant blue turquoise combine sumptuously with Naveek's signature (and secret) method of laser inlay. The stylized Yei head is meticulously wrought of gold, with both textured matte, and polished surfaces. The gold arrow elements that flank the inlaid "body" of the pendant are similarly textured and polished. The band of inlaid turquoise adds a vivid shaft of color, in high contrast to the sleek black jade and grid of gold. Although traditional in inspiration, and with a recognizably realistic design, the elegance of the design, the perfection of the workmanship, and the opulence of the materials all contribute to a luxuriously modern effect. This is fabulously "throwaway" splendor, though: wonderful with sweaters or evening wear, this pendant amortizes very well. How smart, in all senses of the word! A perfect complement would be this artist's Black Jade and Gold Ring, elsewhere on this site. |
