Wright's Indian Art > Sculpture"Sculpture is three-dimensional artwork created by shaping or combining hard materials, typically stone or wood or metal...or plastic materials such as clay, textiles, polymers, etc. Materials may be worked by removal, such as carving. " That is the official definition of sculpture. Sculpture is much more when an artist encounters a piece of "hard" or "plastic" material - such as stone or clay. Unlike flat works of art, sculpture reveals many aspects at varying angles - you can turn it, adjust it, walk around it and see it differently at each move. Sculpture is meant to be felt, not merely observed; the textures and forms are to be enjoyed with two senses. Not every sculpture is realistic; many are, but many are symbolic, mythical, or simply abstract. And sculptures of stone or metal, or polymer, tend to be unbreakable in everyday use. You, your pets, kids, and visitors can happily co-exist with sculpture and keep your heart rate stable, too.
